i scanned the previous topics and couldn't seem to find any posts on this topic, so here's the question:
do any of you know of any sugar-free chocolate that tastes close enough to real chocolate? my sister, a chocoholic, has been recently diagnosed with diabetes and the thought of not being able to eat chocolate is killing her!

Re: sugar-free chocolate?
Mon, July 10, 2006 - 11:25 PMChoco-Perfection is the best sugar-free I've tried. It's got a natural sweetener... I think Zylitol. It's not as perfect as they imply, but it's pretty close. Available in dark and milk.

Re: sugar-free chocolate?
Tue, July 11, 2006 - 2:32 AMI hope that you don't mind an indirect answer to your question. I eat chocolate almost every day. I love the taste, but the real reason is because it makes me feel better. Sugar, vanilla, etc is irrelevant; so I eat straight unsweetened bakers chocolate from my local supermarket. Half an ounce is the equivalent of a humongous piece of chocolate cake. It is definitely an acquired taste.
For adventurous souls who like to cook Mexican food, chocolate is an ingredient in dark mole, a yummy sauce that you can put on top of enchiladas.
If sweet taste is a must, health food stores carry Steevia (spelling?), which is white, and volume-for-volume, is much sweeter than sugar. They could probably give some good cooking tips on Steevia.

Re: sugar-free chocolate?
Tue, July 11, 2006 - 12:28 PMI say, go with the unsweetened powder, add splenda and nonfat milk or cream and whip it up. It will be a good treat. Leonidas sometimes has sugar free chocolates and they're quite nice. I've seen sugar free in the stores (Russell Stowe, etc), but those use sugar alcohols and maltilol (sp), which can give you the runs if you're sensitive to it or indulge too much. -

Re: sugar-free chocolate?
Fri, September 8, 2006 - 12:10 PMfunny story: I bought the dark sugar-free chocolate and a friend of mine like them. She went out and bought her self a bag and ate the WHOLE bag in 6 hrs. Needless to say, I pointed out to her on the back of the bag it says that those candies are like laxatives. She spent the rest of the work day running to the ladies room............................bwahahahahaha -

Re: sugar-free chocolate?
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 8:20 PMHi everyone I am new here and found this thread by accident. I run my own online chocolate and candy shoppe. I am also waiting to hear if we have been approved to have a chocolate booth at renaissance faire this year. I make sugar free truffles and nut clusters with a really nice sugar free chocolate in milk, dark or ivory chocolate. The brand is Peters or you can find a nice selection of sugar free at Ashers Candies sorry I am not sure of the website.
Enjoy Be Well Vera -
